SPF 30 vs SPF 50 — does it actually matter?
You’ve probably seen both and wondered —
does SPF 50 really make that much difference?
Short answer: yes, but not in the way most people think.
What SPF numbers actually mean
SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays
SPF 50 blocks about 98–99% of UVB rays
So no, SPF 50 isn’t “double” SPF 30.
But that extra 1–2% matters more than it sounds — especially in Indian conditions.
Why SPF matters more in India
- Stronger UV exposure throughout the year
- Longer sun exposure (commutes, daily routines)
- Heat + pollution = increased skin sensitivity
This combination accelerates:
- Pigmentation
- Tanning
- Premature ageing
So which one should you use?
SPF 30 is enough if:
- You’re mostly indoors
- Minimal sun exposure
SPF 50 is better if:
- You step out frequently
- You’re dealing with pigmentation or acne marks
- You want stronger daily protection
The real problem isn’t SPF — it’s usage
Most people:
- Don’t apply enough
- Skip reapplication
- Avoid sunscreen because it feels heavy
→ HYDRO-UV SPF 30 & SPF 50 are designed to feel light, non-greasy, and wearable daily.
The bottom line
The best sunscreen isn’t the highest SPF.
It’s the one you’ll actually use every day.
